Anterior Crossbite in a 9-Year-Old with MIH — Removable Appliance Requested: ADC OSCE practice station

An ADC-style practice station on OSCE Coach. Practice, not real, past or recalled exam content.

What the candidate is told

Alan is a 9-year-old boy, brought to your practice today by his parents, who are concerned about his teeth. They have been on the public waiting list to see an orthodontist for some time. They were told the service is very busy and were advised to see a general dentist in the meantime. The referral letter states: "Please provide removable appliance for correction of crossbite of 11." On examination today, tooth 11 (upper right central incisor) is in anterior crossbite. There are mild, well-demarcated creamy-brown enamel opacities on a first permanent molar. His parents are anxious. Take a history, explain what is going on, and address their concerns.

How to approach orthodontics stations

Orthodontic stations focus on explaining options, timelines and commitment. Practise setting realistic expectations and checking the patient's goals before recommending a plan.

Whatever the topic, the same habits earn marks: signpost what you will cover, listen, explain in plain words, offer real options, and check understanding. Our guide to the communication criteria shows how: ADC communication marking criteria, explained.
