Combination Syndrome: ADC OSCE practice station

An ADC-style practice station on OSCE Coach. Practice, not real, past or recalled exam content.

What the candidate is told

Mrs Cavalli, a regular patient, presents wanting a new upper complete denture and a new lower denture. She has four remaining lower teeth (32, 31, 41, 42) with grade 2 mobility and gingival recession, which she does not want removed. She has been diagnosed with osteoporosis, and her GP has referred her to you for dental clearance before starting treatment. At a previous visit you recommended removing the four remaining teeth, but she was unwilling to proceed and has said she'd prefer to travel overseas for a second opinion and treatment. Task: explain why tooth removal is important, and address and manage her concerns.

How to approach prosthodontics stations

Prosthodontic stations often involve replacing missing teeth or managing a failed restoration. Practise presenting realistic options, what each involves, and what the patient will need to do to look after them.

Whatever the topic, the same habits earn marks: signpost what you will cover, listen, explain in plain words, offer real options, and check understanding. Our guide to the communication criteria shows how: ADC communication marking criteria, explained.
