Consent for Extraction: ADC OSCE practice station

An ADC-style practice station on OSCE Coach. Practice, not real, past or recalled exam content.

What the candidate is told

Mrs Mackenzie is a regular patient at your clinic. Tooth 16 is badly broken down and unrestorable — it needs extraction. X-ray provided showing tooth 16 (upper right first molar) grossly carious and unrestorable, with the palatal roots in close proximity to the floor of the maxillary sinus. Explain the procedure, describe the complications (common and serious), give post-operative instructions, and confirm the patient's understanding before proceeding.

How to approach oral surgery stations

Oral surgery stations test consent, risk explanation and aftercare. Practise covering the benefits, material risks, alternatives and what to expect afterwards, then checking the patient has understood.

Whatever the topic, the same habits earn marks: signpost what you will cover, listen, explain in plain words, offer real options, and check understanding. Our guide to the communication criteria shows how: ADC communication marking criteria, explained.
