International Student with large silver filling: ADC OSCE practice station

An ADC-style practice station on OSCE Coach. Practice, not real, past or recalled exam content.

What the candidate is told

Mr Gamage, 45-year-old overseas student, came to Australia 2–3 years ago. Chief Complaint: pain from one of his teeth on the lower right side for the past 2 weeks. He cannot localise a particular tooth, but biting on that side makes it worse. Examination Findings: large MOD amalgam restoration on 46, placed around 20 years ago. Clinical Image: intraoral photo showing a large, aged MOD amalgam restoration on tooth 46 with visible fracture lines running through the amalgam. Task: gather information, explain the investigations you would carry out, give a possible diagnosis, and address the patient's concerns.

How to approach restorative dentistry stations

Restorative stations are about explaining findings, options and long-term maintenance without overselling. Practise comparing options honestly and covering cost, durability and upkeep.

Whatever the topic, the same habits earn marks: signpost what you will cover, listen, explain in plain words, offer real options, and check understanding. Our guide to the communication criteria shows how: ADC communication marking criteria, explained.
