An ADC-style practice station on OSCE Coach. Practice, not real, past or recalled exam content.

What the candidate is told

Mr Amaro, 70, regular patient. You have just extracted a mobile tooth 23 (upper left canine). Haemostasis gel has been applied and a suture placed. He takes apixaban (Eliquis) to prevent stroke; you did not stop the medication prior to extraction, having consulted with his GP beforehand. He had a previous extraction 3 years ago, before he was started on Eliquis. He smokes 25 cigarettes a day. Task: give him post-extraction instructions and explain the possible complications that may happen.

How to approach oral surgery stations

Oral surgery stations test consent, risk explanation and aftercare. Practise covering the benefits, material risks, alternatives and what to expect afterwards, then checking the patient has understood.

Whatever the topic, the same habits earn marks: signpost what you will cover, listen, explain in plain words, offer real options, and check understanding. Our guide to the communication criteria shows how: ADC communication marking criteria, explained.
